The Philadelphia Eagles made one of the more intriguing moves of Round 1. Trading up to select Makai Lemon at No. 20 immediately shifted the conversation. Naturally, it didnât take long for the focus to circle back to A.J. Brown.
Just as quickly, the response felt familiar. Following the selection and Round 1's conclusion, general manager Howie Roseman met with the media alongside head coach Nick Sirianni. When asked about Brownâs future, something that has hovered over this offseason for weeks, Roseman delivered the same message he has consistently leaned on.
âA.J. is a member of the Eagles. We don't have any trades that have been made, or that are done. And I think for us, we're taking this one day at a time. We're going to look to improve the team tomorrow, and we'll continue to address anything that we have to with our roster, not only through this draft weekend, but we'll continue to look for ways to improve the team throughout the offseason, and as we get into training camp.â
As expected, there were no surprises and no deviations, but still, context matters. The timing of that answer, coming immediately after a first-round investment at wide receiver, adds another layer to the conversation.
Whether intentional or not, the Eagles have now positioned themselves with flexibility. Lemon joins a room that already includes DeVonta Smith and a collection of recent additions, giving Philadelphia options regardless of how the Brown situation unfolds.
Still, Roseman isnât budging publicly. Thatâs by design.
The expectation around the league may be that something could materialize after June 1, but inside the building, the messaging remains controlled. Philadelphia isnât confirming anything, isnât rushing anything, and certainly isnât negotiating through the media. Instead, theyâre doing what they always do. Theyâre keeping every door open.

The narrative may suggest an ending is near. Brown didn't attend voluntary workouts as his future is uncertain, or maybe it is certain. He's expected to be traded after June 1st. The Eagles can then split his massive cap hit over two seasons. Until then, they are operating as if the story is still being written, and they're sticking to their script. They'll operate as though nothing is happening, even if everything still is.
