Some executives have made a name for themselves as incredible drafters and team builders. The Philadelphia Eagles are very fortunate that Howie Roseman is the man making those decisions, as he's done nothing but build elite teams on both sides of the ball.
It's tough to say, however, that Roseman has done everything right throughout his career. In his defense, there's quite literally not an executive who has made all the right moves throughout their career, as it is literally impossible.
However, Roseman has been just as close as anybody could have hoped for, and, funny enough, some of his previous mistakes seem to be the reason why. Despite making many of the right decisions, Roseman acknowledged that he's made some wrong ones along the way, and much of that has fueled him to be better in the draft, in free agency, and in trades.
Speaking about that recently, it sounds like he's ready to go for the 2026 NFL Draft and is doing whatever he can to ensure that he makes the right moves.
âYeah, a lot,â he said, per NBC Sports Philly. âYou know, I think about the first-round picks that I've missed on, I don't know, every day, really, if I'm being honest with myselfâŠ
âI think that sometimes when I think about those picks and think about the reasons that I miss on those picks, sometimes I even overcompensate, you know,â he said. âSo if you're bringing me somebody that may look like one of those guys, I'm going to be asking a lot of questions and I'm going to be skeptical and I'm going to be skeptical of my own report on those guys.â
This is more so an entire Eagles thing rather than just Roseman. While he's done a lot of good, he also credited the people in the building with him. Philadelphia has done a really good job of building an incredible front office from top to bottom, and Roseman understands that he needs people around him to keep him in check when he's making these moves. If they can help him get better at this, he wants their input on what he should do.
âI feel like they've helped me really get better at my job and I think if it wasn't for those mistakes, I think a lot of successful picks may not have happened,â he said.
âSo, you know, I can't go back and change the past. I'm very comfortable kind of understanding that as much as I'm trying, I'm not going to be perfect, but I'm going to try my hardest to be as perfect as I can be.â
Howie Roseman has admitted to making several wrong decisions throughout his career, which he believes have contributed to his growth as an executive.
Roseman states that his previous mistakes have motivated him to improve his approach in the draft, free agency, and trades.
Howie Roseman is recognized for building elite teams for the Philadelphia Eagles, although he acknowledges that no executive is perfect.
