Eddie Howe feels Nottingham Forest game was âanotherâ Newcastle should have won
Newcastle have had a disappointing Premier League season, and were held 1-1 by Nottingham Forest in what manager Eddie Howe felt was âanotherâ game they should have won.
The Magpies took the lead in the 74th minute via Harvey Barnes but Elliot Anderson equalised in the 88th minute to snatch two points away from Newcastle.
Speaking after the game, Howe said: âItâs a decent performance but when you group everything thatâs happened to us this season, itâs another game that we feel we shouldâve won and we havenât. Already weâre starting to digest why we didnât, lessons to learn, things to improve. We dominated for large periods and shouldâve scored more than one and then paid the price at the end.
âThe team improved as the game went on. First half was a bit of a non-event and we changed things around at half time, moved some things around and were much better in the second half. The two subs made a big impact that was good to see â but then we just have to defend better. Of course, we had chances to get a second goal and we should have done and then we just didnât defend the goal well enough at all.â
Newcastle are 13th in the league, and Howe now has his sights set on ending the campaign in a positive way.
âIf we are able to win our last two games then weâd look at it positively but we have to leave with a better feeling than we have today. Ultimately the late goal changes the perception of ourselves and we put so much effort in, the lads are really trying, but we are just not putting it together for the whole game.â
Eddie Howe expressed that the match was another game Newcastle should have won, highlighting their performance and missed opportunities.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw, with Newcastle taking the lead before Nottingham Forest equalized in the 88th minute.
