England international Jamie Smith is set to keep wicket for Surrey in their County Championship match with Sussex as regular wicketkeeper Ben Foakes is injured.
Foakes has picked up a soft tissue injury and will not play in the match at the Kia Oval that starts on Friday morning (11:00 BST).
Tom Lawes will also miss the game against Sussex, having picked up a soft tissue injury against Essex last week.
Smith has played in all three of Surrey's Championship games this summer, but he has not kept wicket in any of them.
The last time the 25-year-old was behind the stumps was the fifth Ashes Test in Sydney in January as England lost the series 4-1.
Smith has started the county season in excellent form with the bat, scoring 401 runs including two centuries.
He has kept wicket for all 20 of his Tests for England since making his debut in 2024, but he has played second fiddle at county level to Foakes, widely regarded as the superior wicketkeeper.
However, the 33-year-old came out of the Essex game with an injury having bowled two overs at the end of the match on Monday as things were petering out towards a draw.
Lawes has been considered as a possible to make the England squad for the first Test with New Zealand on 4 June, but he has only managed seven wickets in three games that have all finished as high-scoring draws.
Another player to miss out at The Oval over the next few days will be Gus Atkinson, with the England bowler rested as part of his ECB central contract.
Jamie Smith is keeping wicket for Surrey because regular wicketkeeper Ben Foakes is injured.
Ben Foakes has sustained a soft tissue injury, which will prevent him from playing in the match.
The Surrey vs Sussex match starts on Friday morning at 11:00 BST.
