So far this season he has played once, taking two wickets in Notts' thumping 192-run win over Glamorgan.
"I love playing here and I feel my game has come on leaps and bounds in the last few years, so I can't wait to see what the future holds," Tongue said in a statement on the club's website.
"I'm committed to giving everything for Nottinghamshire whenever I step out onto the field and I'm really excited about the next few years."

Tongue made his Test debut against Ireland at Lord's in 2023 and has taken 49 wickets from nine matches for England.
He was one of the stand-out performers on an otherwise wretched Ashes tour to Australia last winter, taking 18 wickets in his three appearances, including his first five-wicket haul in the Boxing Day Test at the MCG - England's only win in their 4-1 series defeat.
"It's great news that Josh has agreed a new contract, committing his future to the club for the next three years," head coach Peter Moores said.
"It's a real boost to have current international players at the club as it continually reminds everyone [about] the opportunities that our game has to offer.
"We all saw the impact he had on our matches last season, and to have that quality within the bowling group gives everyone confidence."
