Ernesto Valverde in fray if Roma sack Gian Piero Gasperini
Serie A side Roma are in a period of chaos, as Gian Piero Gasperini and Claudio Ranieri find themselves in the middle of a fractured relationship. If this leads to the manager getting the axe, Ernesto Valverde could be a possible replacement.
La Gazzetta dello Sport note that the Friedkin ownership remains unsure about the next course of action at Roma. They do believe that Gasperini has crossed the line many times but they have had a difficult relationship with previous managers too, which is making them consider Gasperini for the longer term.
However, things aren’t certain. If the Italian does leave, Roma do not want to be caught off guard. Ernesto Valverde will be a major candidate as a replacement, with the Spaniard’s name previously explored too.
Cesc Fabregas’ candidancy is unlikely to be back on the table considering his rejection last summer. Another option could be ex-Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca, who has been linked heavily to Manchester City. Both Valverde and the the Italian are preferred candidates for Ranieri, as things stand.
Other options include Daniele de Rossi, who is doing quite well at Genoa. Vincenzo Italiano is also in the fray, having won silverware at Bologna already.
This week will be major, when it comes to Gasperini’s future.
