Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is ranked No. 1 nationally, featuring five-star defenders Zyron Forstall and Kamarui Dorsey as key impact players. Coach Mike Elko's defensive expertise is expected to develop these prospects into future NFL draft selections.
Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class is far from finished, but it is already ranked No. 1 nationally in On3's updated class rankings, with 12 commitments, all considered blue-chip prospects. In every recruiting class, some prospects stick out more than others, and among the 12 Aggie commits, five-star edge Zyron Forstall and five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey look like immediate impact players.
Third-year head coach Mike Elko's background as one of the top defensive minds has led to the landing and development of future NFL draft selections, including unanimous All-American edge Cashius Howell, who is expected to be drafted in the first or second round of the 2026 NFL Draft.
During the recruiting process, Elko stated that Zyron Forstall's aggressive and relentless play mirrors Cashius Howell's 2025 performance, which led to leading the SEC in sacks and tackles for loss, while Forstall's 6'4", 235-pound frame is highly similar to Howell's build.
Forstall's game is built on speed and versatility and comes off an impressive junior season at the prestigious IMG Academy, finishing the year with 28 tackles, five sacks, and four hurries. This week, a group of ESPN writers, including Craig Haubert, provided their scouting takes for every 2027 prospect deemed a potential instant impact player heading into the 2027 season.
"In a crowd of top defenders, Forstall is not going to stand out physically, but when the ball is snapped he will grab your attention. He has a good frame and length with room to add more mass and muscle. In action, he has an explosive first step, keeps excellent pad level and is strong at the point of attack. He's functionally strong and his leaner build allows him to both set the edge and win as a pass-rusher. He has also demonstrated a businesslike approach to his craft and coachability that has drawn strong camp reviews. His initial impact could be more in a pass-rushing role in which he can get off the ball and upfield. Forstall has the tools to become a versatile centerpiece of Texas A&M's front seven as he continues to develop his frame."
Zyron Forstall is noted for his aggressive play style, speed, and versatility, mirroring the performance of former player Cashius Howell.
Kamarui Dorsey is expected to be an immediate impact player, enhancing Texas A&M's defensive capabilities in the 2027 season.

Mike Elko and defensive line coaches Elijah Robinson and Tony Jerod-Eddie likely see Forstall as a pure pass rusher who can also provide plus-play as a run defender, and with several likely departures along the 2026 defensive line at the end of the season, I wouldn't be surprised if Forstall competes for a rotational spot during his freshman season.
Next, five-star safety Kamarui Dorsey, who is now considered a five-star prospect in Rival's updated rankings, is also considered a potential first-year standout due to his size, speed, and coverage range, possessing all the tools to thrive in Mike Elko's future secondary. ESPN writer Tom Luginbill provided his scouting report for the blue-chip safety.
"Texas A&M is emphasizing size, range and versatility on the back end. At 6-foot-3 with 4.52 speed, Dorsey brings a true safety body type with the athleticism to support the run, match up in man and patrol deep zones. Dorsey can play high or in the box, anticipating routes in zone and using his length and ball skills to generate turnovers. Coaches rave about his leadership and communication -- he already operates like a QB of the secondary -- and he's not a finesse player, embracing physicality as a core trait. In Mike Elko's defense, Dorsey projects as a multirole safety who can erase space, clean up in the alley and give the Aggies a high-ceiling tone-setter on the back end."
Similar to Colorado transfer safety Tawfiq Byard's versatile skill set in coverage, while serving as a hybrid linebacker who can shoot the gap and stop the run, Dorsey's 6'3" frame and track speed provide Elko a solid base as a strong or free safety at the next level.
