Ex-Michigan staffer Paige Shiver says coaches knew of her relationship with fired head coach Sherrone Moore

Former Michigan staffer Paige Shiver said that other Wolverines coaches were aware of her relationship with former football head coach Sherrone Moore and that the two had been together for years.

In an interview with “Good Morning America,” Shiver said that she was tasked with emotionally supporting Moore in the workplace.

She described Moore during this time as emotionally dependent on her, a relationship she said the department encouraged.

She said she was often told by senior coaches to console Moore "to calm him down" when he was upset, sometimes during game halftimes. She said she went along with it because she feared for her job security. "No one cared about my feelings. They wanted to use me to help him so that they could get through the season," she said.

Moore was sentenced to 18 months probation earlier this month for going to Shiver’s house after he was fired by the university for cause in December because of their relationship. After the two had initially denied they were together, Shiver told investigators that she and Moore had been in a relationship.

After athletic director Warde Manuel fired Moore, the coach went to Shiver’s house, where he allegedly threatened to take his own life and blamed Shiver for what had taken place. The probation sentence came after he pled no contest to misdemeanor malicious use of a telecommunications device involving a domestic relationship and misdemeanor trespassing as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

Shiver said that her relationship with Moore began in January of 2022 while he was an assistant coach. Months later, she said that she learned she was pregnant with Moore’s child. But she had an abortion on the advice of medical counsel. Shiver had been previously diagnosed with Pompe Disease, a genetic glycogen storage disorder.

In the interview, Shiver said that Moore knew about her decision to have an abortion.

“Multiple doctors and experts told me that it wouldn’t be right or healthy for me to keep the baby,” a tearful Shiver said, who nodded and said “yeah” when she was asked if she wanted to keep the baby.

“[Moore] said ‘you had to do what’s right for your body.’”
