The Kansas City Chiefs' new crop of rookies from the 2026 NFL Draft is already facing sky-high expectations as NFL analysts assess the team's trajectory in the offseason.
Promising pass-rusher R Mason Thomas, a former Oklahoma Sooners sack-master who fell to Kansas City in Round 2 of the Annual Player Selection Meeting last month, is among the Chiefs' most exciting rookies and earned a shoutout from veteran pundit Field Yates in an article published by ESPN this week.
Here's what Yates had to say about Kansas City's up-and-coming prospect:
"Thomas was a top-25 player on my final board, so this was great value for the Chiefs to stay patient and land him. What he lacks in size (6-foot-2, 249 pounds), he makes up for with juice. He's a blur coming off the edge, with strong first-step quickness and active, combative hands.
"The Chiefs needed to find pass rushers who major in getting home quick to take the burden off Chris Jones. Mission accomplished." — Field Yates
While it remains to be seen if Thomas will earn playing time in Steve Spagnuolo's defense as a rookie, raw talent clearly isn't among the things that will limit the former Sooners' ability to produce in the NFL early in his career.

Field Yates highlighted Thomas as a top-25 player and praised his quickness and combative hands, indicating he will significantly contribute to the Chiefs' pass rush.
Thomas was seen as great value for the Chiefs as he was a highly rated player who fell to them in the second round, fulfilling their need for quick pass rushers.
At 6-foot-2 and 249 pounds, Thomas is smaller than many NFL pass rushers, but his speed and agility compensate for his size.
