After a big 34-6 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in November 2024, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones ignored calls to put up blackout curtains to block the bright sunlight at AT&T Stadium. The issue came up again when star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb missed a chance for a go-ahead touchdown because he lost the ball in the light.
Despite Lamb saying he was fully in favor of using the curtains already up for concerts and basketball games, Jones firmly rejected the idea.
Jones argued that the sun glare is a strategic element. "It has been an advantage for us to know where the sun is," Jones claimed, adding that the Cowboys "know where the damn sun's going to be" when they decide to flip the coin.
Jones insisted the $1.2 billion stadium was intentionally built with an east-west orientation to provide an "outdoor feel" while indoors.
When pressed on the issue, Jones sarcastically suggested tearing the stadium down and building a new one rather than simply closing the curtains.
Most NFL stadiums are oriented north-south to prevent players from looking directly into the sun. AT&T Stadium's unusual east-west alignment causes intense glare through massive west-side windows during late-afternoon games, specifically affecting plays in the end zone.
CeeDee Lamb missed a potential touchdown catch due to losing the ball in the sunlight during a game at AT&T Stadium.
Jerry Jones believes the sun glare provides a strategic advantage for the Cowboys and rejected the idea of installing blackout curtains.
Fans are calling Jerry Jones the 'Cowboys Curse' and expressing frustration over his refusal to address the sun glare issue after a significant loss.
