Kameron Taylor, a transfer from UNC Asheville, joins FSU as a key wing scorer for the upcoming season. He was highly sought after and is expected to enhance the team's backcourt despite needing improvement in shot selection.

When Luke Loucks and his staff began mapping out their most consequential transfer portal cycle since arriving in Tallahassee, landing a wing scorer capable of competing at the ACC level from Day 1 sat near the very top of the priority list. Loucks needed a proven, high-volume scorer who could anchor the backcourt and wing rotation heading into his second season, and he found exactly that in UNC Asheville's Kameron Taylor.
Taylor didn't arrive quietly; he received interest from several other high-major programs before committing to the Seminoles. Before he suits up in garnet and gold, here are five things every Seminoles fan should know about the program's exciting new addition.
Taylor arrives in Tallahassee as one of the most productive scorers available in this portal cycle, but evaluators and analysts have consistently pointed to shot selection as the area where his game has the most room to develop. Across two seasons at UNC Asheville, Taylor has shot just 26 percent from three-point range, with only a marginal improvement as a sophomore when he connected on 39 threes on 139 attempts.
Recruiting analysts who tracked him entering the portal noted that while his athleticism is elite, his ability to score in bursts is undeniable. His shot selection could stand to improve at the next level. He can fill it up when engaged, but consistency of decision-making will be the determining factor in how quickly he makes an impact in the ACC.
Taylor's commitment to Florida State was not handed to the Seminoles. Programs like Michigan Wolverines, Indiana Hoosiers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Kansas Jayhawks were among those pursuing Taylor before he made his decision. The ability to beat out a Big Ten and SEC recruiting field for a wing of Taylor's caliber signals real momentum in the program's portal operation and underscores the appeal of what Loucks is constructing in Year 2.

What separates Taylor from the typical mid-major scorer is the combination of size, frame, and positional versatility he brings. Listed at 6-foot-7 and 185 pounds, Taylor profiles as a true wing who can credibly guard multiple positions — a trait Loucks has repeatedly emphasized as a roster-building priority.
He shot 52.9 percent on two-point attempts and drew 7.0 free-throw attempts per game, reflecting a physical attacking style that generates easy paint touches and keeps defenses honest.
The leap Taylor made from his freshman to sophomore season was one of the more dramatic individual jumps in the conference this year. As a freshman, Taylor came off the bench as a consistent sixth man, averaging 8.9 points and 4.2 rebounds and earning Big South All-Freshman Team honors.
His sophomore campaign was an entirely different story — Taylor became the team's leading scorer at 18.9 points per game, earning first-team Big South All-Conference honors while shooting 45.3 percent from the field and 28.1 percent from beyond the arc. He finished the season with a Player Efficiency Rating of 19.8 across 32 games and 30 starts.
Taylor's path to becoming one of the most coveted wings in the transfer portal is not the typical blue-chip story. Despite his obvious physical tools, just four programs — UNCG, Chicago State, Radford, and Chattanooga — were willing to extend an offer during his grassroots circuit evaluation period before he transferred to Carmel Christian School in Matthews, N.C.
The decision to move schools paid off immediately. In his final prep season at Carmel Christian in 2023-24, Taylor averaged 24.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game, commanding attention on the back end of his recruitment. He was named MVP of the North Carolina Private School All-Star game, earned 4A All-State recognition, and was named to the All-Observer First Team.
