Although Palmeiras, after drawing 0-0 with Corinthians this Sunday (12), opened up a six-point gap over their main rivals in the Brasileirão, the 11th round of the competition was better for Flamengo. The 2-1 win over Fluminense at the Maracanã, with two goals from Pedro – Savarino pulled one back – took the Rubro-Negro to 20 points, in second place, and with one game in hand over Palmeiras, who have 26.
São Paulo, Fluminense and Bahia, with the same number of points as Flamengo, are in 3rd, 4th and 5th place, respectively.
At Neo Química Arena, Palmeiras failed to make the most of the advantage of playing with two extra players for much of the second half.
Besides these two traditional derbies, Sunday also featured matches at Arena da Baixada (Athletico-PR 2-0 Chapecoense, goals by Mendoza and Viveros), at Nilton Santos (Botafogo 2-2 Coritiba, with goals by Danilo and Arthur Cabral for the Rio side and Breno Lopes and Lavega for Coxa) and at Mineirão (Cruzeiro 2-1 Red Bull Bragantino, with goals by Christian and Villarreal for the home side and Andrés Hurtado for the visitors).
The round began on Saturday (11), with five other matches. Vitória beat São Paulo 2-0 at Barradão (goals by Cacá and Ramon), Remo and Vasco drew 1-1 at Mangueirão (goals by Marllon for the home side and Andrés Gomez for the Rio team), Mirassol lost 2-1 to Bahia at Maião after coming from behind (goals by David Duarte, an own goal in Mirassol’s favor, and by Luciano Juba and Sanabria for the Bahia side), Santos defeated Atlético-MG 1-0 at Vila Belmiro (goal by Moisés), and Internacional and Grêmio played out a scoreless draw at Beira-Rio.
