On Tuesday night, though, it was for a heartwarming reason.
Flames goalie Dustin Wolf recognized the importance of engaging a young fan who was seated a few rows behind the boards.
And so when Wolf had a chance, he handed his goalie stick to an attendant to give to the youngster.
The kid began to cry before the stick even arrived:

Wolf, who will turn 25 on Thursday, is a seventh-round draft pick from 2019 who hails from California.
He has spent his four seasons in the NHL with the Flames, though, and he clearly knows what the fans mean to the sport.
He had a chance to send a youngster home happy, and he did it in the best way.
It's safe to say that goalie stick will take up a place of honor, and that this will be a night never forgotten.
The Flames lost the game to the powerhouse Avalanche, 3-1, but Wolf was sharp. He saved 36-of-38 shots on his net.
And he made a fan's night.
