Florida has already added one player attempting to make the move from basketball to football in Jacksonville's Jaylen Jordan, and coach Jon Sumrall could be looking to add another.
According to ESPN's Pete Thamel, the Gators are playing host to former Missouri State basketball player Michael Osei-Bonsu. A 6-foot-4 forward from Bolingbrook, Illinois, Osei-Bonsu started 63 games for the Bears over the last two seasons and averaged 15.3 points and 7.3 rebounds this past season.
He entered the transfer portal last month in pursuit of football opportunities, and he's expected to either play tight end or defensive tackle. Osei-Bonsu has already made visits to Illinois and Tulsa, as well as Missouri State's football team.
Jordan, a reserve player at JU, joined the Gators as a tight end after exhausting his basketball eligibility. He worked out with Florida at its pro day earlier this offseason.
Sumrall inherits a program that went 4-8 in the final season under Billy Napier, and he's looking to make a quick turnaround. However, it seems he's also willing to take a chance on talented athletes trying their hand at a new sport.
