"As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028," FSU athletic director Michael Alford said in a news release. "We are now discussing playing a future neutral-site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward."
In December, Marc Weiszer of the Athens-Banner Herald, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported the schools were working toward moving the game to Tampa as a neutral site contest.
“While we are still early in the process regarding neutral site plans, we remain optimistic and look forward to further conversations with Florida State," athletic director Josh Brooks said in a statement.
The cancellation is due to evolving scheduling mandates within the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference.
The schools are in discussions to arrange a neutral-site matchup in the near future.
No, Florida State's athletic director stated that this change will not reduce the total number of home games on their schedule.
