The Florida football program added junior college cornerback Javier Jones to the secondary in another late roster addition.
Jones made his commitment to the Gators this week while on a campus visit. While he does not currently have an On3 or 247Sports ranking, he comes from Independence College with three years of eligibility.
Listed at 6-feet-1-inches, 185 pounds, Jones expressed that Florida Director of Player Personnel Chris Prescott has been pushing to get him on campus for months. Cornerbacks coach Brandon Harris was directly involved in bringing Jones to campus and played a part in swaying him towards the Orange and Blue. He recently visited LSU and was offered by UTEP before choosing Florida.
āIāve talked to Chris Prescott the most, but I just started talking to Brandon Harris like three or four days ago," Jones told Gators Online. "Coach Harris told me that heās been fighting to get me down here for a visit. He said theyāre about work, so if I come there, be ready to work. He said he thinks I could be a good fit to the room.ā
A native of Phoenix, Arizona, Jones played 10 games during the 2025-26 season and recorded 12 tackles and five pass breakups, according to his JUCO profile. He projects as a depth piece for Harris' unit ā both Prescott and Harris see Jones as a defensive scheme and system fit for the program.
Florida has added multiple JUCO players this offseason to bolster its roster. In January, the Gators inked DB Elijah Owens to the class. The 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College safety was also scouted and recruited by position coach Chris Collins, who helped pave his path to Gainesville.
The signing of Jones reinforces the secondary rebuild for Jon Sumrall and staff ahead of his first season in the Swamp.
Javier Jones chose Florida due to the strong recruitment efforts from Florida's Director of Player Personnel Chris Prescott and cornerbacks coach Brandon Harris.
Javier Jones is listed at 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs 185 pounds.
Javier Jones has three years of eligibility remaining after transferring from Independence College.
