Zach Calzada, former Auburn quarterback, has been released by the Ottawa RedBlacks of the CFL after signing with them on April 27. His college career spanned four rosters over seven seasons, including notable performances at Texas A&M and Kentucky.
The football journey of former Auburn quarterback Zach Calzada has taken another turn. On Thursday, the Ottawa RedBlacks of the CFL released the 25-year-old quarterback, according to 3 Down Nation. Calzada had signed with the team on April 27 after completing his college career at Kentucky.
While in college, Cazada was on four different rosters over seven seasons. His career started at Texas A&M, where he stayed for three years. During his freshman season in 2019, he appeared in three games, completing 12-of-24 passes for three touchdowns. He would not play during the 2020 season, but after an injury to Haynes King early in the 2021 season, Calzada took over at quarterback. The highlight of the season came in a 41-38 upset win over Alabama, where Calzada threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns.
Calzada would enter the transfer portal after the 2021 season. Auburn needed a quarterback after Bo Nix transferred to the Oregon Ducks, and beating Alabama in College Station made Calzada a candidate as the next Tigers signal-caller. However, he would never play a game for Auburn due to a shoulder injury. The Tigers were then forced to play T.J. Finley and Robby Ashford as starting quarterbacks. Auburn finished the season 5-7, and head coach Bryan Harsin was fired after eight games.
Zach Calzada was released by the Ottawa RedBlacks as part of their roster cuts, which included ten other players.
Zach Calzada played for Texas A&M, Auburn, Incarnate Word, and Kentucky during his college football career.
Zach Calzada is known for leading Texas A&M to a significant upset victory over Alabama in 2021 and for passing for 6,342 yards and 54 touchdowns at Incarnate Word.
