Former Bears failed receiver gets second chance with Packers
Chicago Bears fans need no reminder of the failed trade experiment that was wide receiver Chase Claypool, who was acquired from the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2022. It remains arguably the biggest stain on general manager Ryan Poles' resume.
But Claypool, who last played with the Miami Dolphins in 2023, is getting another chance, this time with the Bears' biggest rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Claypool is getting a tryout at Packers rookie minicamp, according to reporters in attendance. But their interest shouldn't come as a surprise.
When the Steelers traded Claypool to the Bears, they also received an offer for a second-round pick from the Packers. Pittsburgh opted to take Chicago's offer because they believed it would be a better pick. And, shocker, they were correct.

During his time with the Bears, Claypool recorded just 18 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown in 10 games, and he never won a game while with Chicago. The Bears traded Claypool to the Dolphins in exchange for a late-round pick swap, receiving a sixth rounder and sending a seventh-round selection.
Now, Claypool has a chance to prove himself with the Packers, who were the frontrunner to land him back in 2022. And if he happens to earn a roster spot, it could make a heated rivalry between the Bears and Packers even spicier.
