Former Commanders' sack leader signs with Super Bowl champion Seahawks

Former Washington Commanders linebacker Dante Fowler Jr. has another new home. Fowler, who led the Commanders with 10.5 sacks in 2024, signed a one-year deal on Tuesday with the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Fowler, who turns 32 in August, will play for his sixth NFL team in 2026. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars, Fowler initially failed to live up to expectations, but a trade to the Los Angeles Rams in 2018 seemed to rejuvenate his career. In 2019, Fowler recorded a career-high 11.5 sacks, which earned him a three-year deal worth $48 million from the Atlanta Falcons. It reunited Fowler with then-Falcons head coach Dan Quinn, his defensive coordinator at the University of Florida. In 2022, he would again join Quinn after being released, signing with the Dallas Cowboys, where Quinn was defensive coordinator.

After two years in Dallas, Quinn was named head coach of the Commanders in 2024, and he brought Fowler with him. In his role as a situational pass-rusher, Fowler thrived, recording his second-best NFL season in terms of sacks with 10.5. However, despite desperately needing pass rush help, Washington allowed Fowler to leave. He returned to the Cowboys, where he played in all 17 games, making 11 starts, but finished with just three sacks.

His deal with the Seahawks is for a reported $5 million.
