When the Diana Russini and Mike Vrabel photo controversy hit the table on Speakeasy, “Shady” didn’t hold back — and Emmanuel Acho wasn’t about to let him off easy.
“This is what I hate about Aamerica. Why are we all in his business? Why are we in their business?” McCoy thundered early in the episode, via YouTube. “Now, to me, I don’t think they had nothing going on.”
McCoy painted a picture of how easily innocent interactions can be twisted, using a nightclub scenario to illustrate his point.
Two people at a bar, checking their phones, talking — from a distance, it looks like they’re exchanging numbers. But what if they’re not? What if context is everything, and we’re all just jumping to conclusions based on a few freeze-frames from someone’s camera phone?
“From a distance, you can’t tell who was who,” McCoy argued. “If he’s at a resort or wherever he was at and she’s there, they know each other. If he’s in the pool, she’s in the pool, they can’t talk to each other. If he sees and he greets her, he can’t hug her. We got to stop getting everybody’s business.”
But his former Eagles teammate, Emmanuel Acho, is not buying the privacy argument — at least not entirely. Because while McCoy is focused on the photos and personal boundaries, Acho sees something far more troubling: the money.
“Diana votes on coach of the year, on MVPs, on all pros. She’s one of the 50 voters and she voted Mike Vrabel for coach of the year,” Acho explained. “That is probably the clearest and the biggest conflict of interest.”
Acho pointed out that Josh Allen had a $1 million bonus attached to an MVP vote two years ago. Coaches’ contracts are private, so nobody knows what financial incentives might be tied to awards like Coach of the Year.
But when Kevin Stefanski won the award over DeMeco Ryans by a single vote, it proved just how much power each individual ballot holds.
“Jobs are being moved, finances are being swayed, millions of dollars are being exchanged based upon votes,” Acho said. “And if Diane Russini does have that power and her relationship is in any way, shape or form compromised, then you’re talking about the movement of millions.”
