LAWRENCE (KSNT) – Former Jayhawk Bryce Hoppel joins this week’s episode of K-Nation.
Hoppel returned to Lawrence to compete in the World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger Events as part of the Rock Chalk Classic.
He took gold in the 2024 World Indoor Championships in the 800 meters and set an American record in the event at the 2024 Summer Olympics with a time of 1:41.67 to become the seventh fastest man and the second fastest North American man at the distance.
Hoppel is a seven-time U.S. Champion and two-time NCAA Champion in the event.
Returning to Lawrence to compete is always a great time for the former Jayhawk.
“It’s pretty emotional to return. I’ve spent a lot of years of my life here. I lived in Lawrence for eight years,” Hoppel said. “Staying with my coach and seeing all the guys and the team is something special. To race here at Rock Chalk and be along with the campus guys is awesome, and I miss it.”
