P.J. Walker, who played three of his four NFL seasons with the Panthers, has retired. The 31-year-old passer made his decision known to his current team, the Canadian Football Leagueās Calgary Stampedersāwho announced the news on Thursday afternoon.
An Elizabeth, N.J. native and Temple University product, Walker broke into the pros as an undrafted free agent with the Indianapolis Colts in 2017. Heād move on to the XFLās Houston Roughnecks in 2020, where heād lead the league in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
His first NFL regular-season appearance came as a member of the Panthers later that year, as he replaced an injured Teddy Bridgewater in the second half in a Week 8 contest against the Atlanta Falcons. Over his three campaigns in Carolina, Walker made seven starts over 15 outingsācompleting 131 of his 228 throws for 1,461 yards, five touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Walkerās most memorable NFL moment came in the Panthersā Week 8 matchup with the Falcons in 2022. With his team down 34-28 with 12 seconds left in the game, Walker found wideout DJ Moore on a 62-yard touchdown heave to tie the gameāone Carolina would later lose in overtime.
Heād go on to pick up stops with the Chicago Bears, and before joining the CFL in 2024.
P.J. Walker announced his retirement, but specific reasons for his decision have not been disclosed.
During his time with the Panthers, Walker made seven starts and completed 131 of 228 passes for 1,461 yards, five touchdowns, and 11 interceptions.
