A recent New England Patriots quarterback is reportedly sitting out the beginning of his team's offseason activities.
Jacoby Brissett won't attend the opening phase of the Arizona Cardinals' offseason program, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The 33-year-old is seeking an extension with a higher salary befitting a starter.
Brissett returned to New England in 2024, eight years after the franchise selected him in the third round of the draft, following four seasons with four different teams. He started the first five games before the Patriots handed the keys to rookie Drake Maye.
The veteran found a new home when joining the Cardinals on a two-year, $12.5 million deal last offseason. An injury to Kyler Murray gave the journeyman more playing time than anticipated, and Brissett responded by tossing a career-high 23 touchdowns with a 94.1 quarterback rating.

Although Brissett played well, the Cardinals won just one of his dozen starts. Yet they released Murray in March, and the former No. 1 overall pick signed with the Minnesota Vikings.
Brissett is currently slated to return as Arizona's starter in 2026. While the Cardinals could draft a quarterback, there's nobody likely to justify their No. 3 pick and a Week 1 starting nod.
Brissett's $4.88 million base salary, only $1.5 million of which is guaranteed, is a big bargain for a competent starting quarterback. His current contract pays him less than Gardner Minshew, who received $5.14 million fully guaranteed to back up Brissett in Arizona.
According to Rapoport, Arizona "appears unwilling" to renegotiate Brissett's contract.
