Caroline Ducharme, a former South Shore high school basketball star and UConn alum, has signed a training-camp deal with the Golden State Valkyries to compete for a WNBA roster spot after going undrafted in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
Former South Shore high school basketball star to get her shot in WNBA
Caroline Ducharme is league bound.
The 23-year-old Milton native and UConn alum agreed to a training-camp deal with the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday, April 15 and will compete for a roster spot after being unchosen in the 2026 WNBA Draft.
During her time at UConn, Ducharme averaged 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds in 92 career games across five seasons, two of which were cut short by head/neck injuries.
Ducharme, a 6-2 guard, was a veteran member of the Huskies' 2025 national-championship squad after being named to the All-Big East second team and Big East all-freshman team as a newcomer in 2022. She registering 9.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game on 45.5% shooting from the field in her freshman season.
She played in three Final Fours and two national title games in her collegiate career.

Former Nobles standout Caroline Ducharme is preparing for her freshman season at UConn.
In high school at Nobles and Greenough in Dedham, Ducharme was a two-time Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year. She averaged a staggering 31.0 points, 15.3 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 4.5 steals and 3.3 blocks as a senior in 2021, one year after she committed to coach Geno Auriemma's powerhouse as ESPN's 41st-ranked recruit in the nation in her class.
Golden State is the WNBA's newest franchise and it qualified for the playoffs in its debut campaign (23-21). The team drafted Flau'jae Johnson with the No. 8 overall pick in this week's WNBA Draft and dealt to her to the Seattle Storm for Marta Suarez (the No. 16 selection) and a 2028 second-rounder.
In training camp, Ducharme will share the floor with former Newton South star Veronica Burton — daughter of local sportscaster Steve Burton and one of Golden State's budding young players, who recorded 11.9 points, 6 assists sand 4.4 rebounds as a rookie last year.
