Four-star offensive lineman Layton Von Brandt is reconsidering Penn State after the hiring of new head coach Matt Campbell. He had previously de-committed following James Franklin's firing but is now among Campbell's top prospects.

After the firing of James Franklin, the Penn State Class of 2027 was nowhere near where it stands today. A lot of players who originally expected for Franklin to stay on with the team de-committed from the program. However, now that new head coach Matt Campbell has gotten the recruiting cycle back on track, several former commits are starting to come back around on Penn State, including a four star offensive lineman who was one of Franklin's first 2027 commits.
Layton Von Brandt had been an early commit for the Class of 2027, but when he heard of Franklin's firing, he de-committed the weekend of his firing. Now, he is getting closer to his final decision, with Penn State back amongst his good graces and in his final four. The 64th overall prospect in the class, he would be Campbell's highest-rated signing this cycle. However, a huge roadblock stands in the Blue and White's way.
One of Von Brandt's final four schools is Florida, where former Penn State O-line coach Phil Trautwein now works. Trautwiein has already landed some highly coveted offensive line talent in Gainesville, including the No. 1 offensive lineman in the entire nation, Maxwell Hiller. Another school that Von Brandt is fond of is Notre Dame, which already has Pennsylvania's top-ranked offensive lineman in James Halter.
Still, the fact that Von Brandt is willing to give Penn State a second look now that Campbell is at the helm should be somewhat reassuring for Nittany Lions fans and even Campbell himself. Perhaps Von Brandt can keep the Class of 2027 rolling for Matt Campbell's incredible start.
