On Monday, Sean Hannity dedicated an entire segment on his Fox News show to the Metsā latest skid. According to the conservative host, thereās nothing wrong with the roster construction of the team and the manager shouldnāt be shouldering the blame either.
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, however, is the reason according to Hannity
āAnd by the way, the New York Mets, they are on an 11-game losing streak... right after the Mayor met and hugged the team mascot, Mr. Met, at Citi Field on April 9,ā Hannity said in a clip shared on X/Twitter, āa phenomenon people are calling āthe Mamdani curse.āā
The Metsā losing streak reached 11 games after Sundayās 2-1 loss in Chicago. This has extended a troubling pattern for Mendoza that includes last seasonās late collapse that cost the Mets a playoff berth.
Recent managerial decisions have drawn criticism.
On Saturday, Mendoza removed pitcher Freddy Peralta in the sixth inning of a 1-1 game, and Brooks Raley surrendered a three-run home run on his first pitch.
Sundayās game featured an unconventional pitching plan, starting reliever Tobias Myers before bringing in scheduled starter David Peterson. Devin Williams later blew a save in the ninth inning.
'The Mamdani curse' refers to the belief that the Mets' losing streak began after NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani hugged the team mascot, Mr. Met.

In extra innings, Mendoza chose not to intentionally walk Cubs leadoff hitter Nico Hoerner with first base open and the winning run on third. Hoerner delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly.
Itās fair to note that Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns expressed confidence in Mendoza on Friday before the Cubs series.
The Mets return to Citi Field on Tuesday.
