Take a bow, Jameis Winston. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback has been announced as the FOX Sports correspondent for the FIFA World Cup men's tournament this summer. He'll be checking in from the sidelines with commentary on games and interviews from the players and managers competing for a world championship.
"I'm a futbol correspondent. Footbal, with the feet," Winston said in a video FOX Sports shared on social media. He broke the news to New York Giants teammates like Jaxson Dart (in the stands at the Kentucky Derby), Cam Skattebo, and Malik Nabers, and his mother as well as FOX Sports analysts who will be covering the tournament.
Winston turned his career around with the Saints, even if he wasn't able to hold onto the starting quarterback job. Embracing the goofiness of his public persona and avoiding the self-inflicted legal troubles that plagued his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Florida State Seminoles has paid off. These days he's a coveted backup quarterback and media personality with no shortage of options. Good for him.
What's next for him on the field? Winston turned 32 in January and is playing on the second year of an $8 million contract he signed with the Giants last spring. He could call it a career after backing up Dart for one more season and pivot to his choice of jobs in sports media, but if he's willing to keep up the balancing act of preparing to go into a game on a moment's notice while manning a microphone at other major sporting events, no one could blame him.
