Frankfort won their Class AA, Region II playoff opener against South Harrison 13-11. Moorefield and East Hardy also secured victories, while Hampshire faced a loss.
SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Frankfort opened the Class AA, Region II playoffs in the win column, fending off a rally by South Harrison to win 13-11 on Monday.
The Falcons (19-10) saw their six-run lead whittled to two in the seventh, but Sydney Robosson induced a groundout with the tying run at the plate.
Frankfort broke a 7-7 tie with a four-run fifth, adding two insurance runs in the sixth.
Jocolyn Hurley was 2 for 2 with a triple and three RBIs, Jordan-Marie Owens tripled and scored four times, Elizabeth Crowe doubled, Robosson had two hits and two ribbies, and Riley Lynch and Dayahna Imes each had two singles.
Robosson was the winning arm, allowing four unearned runs in three innings of relief. Peyton Kimble pitched the first four frames.
Emily Squires and Tori Nicholson both doubled for South Harrison (8-16).
Frankfort is at Petersburg (22-4) in a regional winner's bracket game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
West Virginia regional tournaments follow a double-elimination format.
Moorefield 30, Berkeley Springs 1
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield racked up 21 hits and took advantage of 10 Berkeley Springs errors and seven walks to roll in five innings Monday in the Class AA, Region II playoffs.
The Yellow Jackets (15-15) scored nine runs in the first inning and seven in each of the next four.
Brenna See was 2 for 2 with a three-run homer, Gracie Simmons was 4 for 5 with two doubles and three ribbies, and Kerigan Bergdall and Raleigh Kuykendall had two doubles apiece.
Annie Barr was the winning arm, tossing an inning of middle relief after two frames of one-run ball by starter Anniston Kite. Makayla Myers pitched two shutout innings to the end.
Payton Mizell had three hits, including two doubles, for Berkeley Springs (1-21).
Moorefield is at Lincoln in a winner's bracket game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
East Hardy 5, Tygarts Valley 4
BAKER, W.Va. — East Hardy moved a win away from the Class A state tournament, defeating Tygarts Valley in its Region II playoff opener.
Because the subregion contains just two teams, a three-game series determines the state representative.
Game 2 is at Tygarts Valley (5-12) on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
On Monday, Madison Strosnider willed the Cougars (9-11) to victory, finishing 3 for 3 with a triple, a double and two RBIs and tossing a 16-strikeout complete game in the circle.
Strosnider scattered 12 hits and three walks to allow four runs.
East Hardy's Bella Bauserman came up with the go-ahead hit in the bottom of the fifth to break a 3-3 tie, and an error tacked on an insurance run.
Gracie Heishman also drove in a run.
Tygarts Valley's Lilly Lanham also pitched a complete game in defeat. She allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits in six frames of work, striking out two and walking two.
Frankfort won the game against South Harrison with a final score of 13-11.
Jocolyn Hurley, Jordan-Marie Owens, and Sydney Robosson were standout players, contributing significantly to the team's performance.
Frankfort secured their win by breaking a 7-7 tie with a four-run fifth inning and adding two insurance runs in the sixth.
Moorefield and East Hardy also won their playoff openers alongside Frankfort.

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Hampshire was the victim of a combined perfect game in a five-inning loss to Robert C. Byrd in the Class AAA, Region II postseason.
The Trojans (0-25) were six-up, six-down against Chloe Barlow and Torrin Strawderman, who sandwiched a 1-2-3 inning by Ariel Lamp.
Hampshire will play in an elimination game on the road on Wednesday.
Keyser opens playoff run
Keyser (20-4) begins its Class AAA, Region II playoff run with a matchup against Elkins at home on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Elkins defeated Bridgeport, 9-5, in the first round on Monday.
