The No. 12 Florida State Seminoles rallied to beat the Jacksonville Dolphins 5-2 on Tuesday night at Dick Howser Stadium. FSU completed the season sweep with the win, improving to 34-14.
The Dolphins took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, scoring one run on a wild pitch by Cade O'Leary nd another on a two-out single. He ended the inning with a strikeout, stranding one run.
The Seminoles had a chance to answer in the fourth, loading the bases on two outs with a walk, error, and a hit by pitch, but Carter McCulley grounded into a fielder's choice to end the threat. They were able to get it done in the fifth inning as John Stuetzer hit a leadoff homer. Brayden Dowd singled before Brody DeLamielleure was hit and Hunter Carns loaded the bases with a single.
Nathan Cmeyla tied it with a sacrifice fly, but two strikeouts ended the inning and kept it a 2-2 game. Cmeyla once again came through in the seventh, driving in DeLamielleure with a single to give FSU a 3-2 lead, their first of the game. Dowd provided some insurance in the eighth, hitting a two-run homer to put them up 5-2.
Dowd and DeLamielleure each finished with three hits as the Seminoles had 10 as a team with five walks and seven strikeouts. They left 10 runners on base, going 4-17 with runners on and 2-12 with runners in scoring position.
Cole Stokes got the win for FSU, and Kevin Mebil picked up his first save of the season as they used five different pitchers in the game. They combined to hold Jacksonville to four hits, issuing five walks and striking out 14 batters.
The Seminoles will hit the road this weekend and play the Clemson Tigers in a three-game series. Friday's game is set to start at 6 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
