TheĀ No. 12 Florida State SeminolesĀ softball team beat theĀ Georgia Tech Yellow JacketsĀ 4-3 on Saturday in Atlanta, Georgia. They clinched the series with the win and have now won 28 straight games against the Yellow Jackets.
The Seminoles took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jaysoni Beachum singled and came around to score on a single by Anna Hinde. FSU (42-7, 17-3 ACC) has led every inning of the series.
They got some breathing room in the second inning as Shelby McKenzie worked a one-out walk before Hayley Griggs singled. MaKenna Sturgis, who was starting in place of the injured Marin Heller, made it a 2-0 game with an RBI double.
Isa Torres followed it up with an RBI double of her own before Beachum singled to make it a 4-0 game. That was the last time FSU scored, as they had just two hits after the second inning. They finished the game with eight hits and three walks.
Ashtyn Danley started the game in the circle for FSU and pitched four shutout innings before Bella Dimitrijevic took over in the fifth inning. The freshman was quickly in trouble, walking the leadoff batter before two quick outs had her on the verge of escaping unscathed.
A single kept the inning alive before Gracyn Tucker crushed a three-run homer to center, making it a 4-3 game in the bottom of the fifth. Dimitrijevic hit the next batter and was replaced by Jazzy Farncik, who ended the inning with a groundout.
Georgia Tech threatened to tie the game in the sixth inning with a leadoff double. Francik made sure that didn't happen, getting a strikeout, a weak groundout, and another strikeout to strand the runner at third and keep FSU up 4-3.
Georgia Tech put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh inning after a two-out single and a walk. Francik responded with a flyout to end the game and earn the save a day after throwing a no-hitter. The Yellow Jackets had six hits, four walks, and six strikeouts in the game.
FSU will go for the sweep on Sunday in Game Three of the series. The game is set to start at 1 p.m. ET and will be streamed on ESPN+.
