By beating Fiorentina in tomorrowâs match at the Olimpico, the Giallorossi could hold their destiny in their hands, at least for a Europa League spot.
Gasperini held his usual press conference at Trigoria on the eve of tomorrowâs match and spoke about two important recoveries.
âKonĂ© is recovered, Dybala was already recovered last week and played a bit during the game. Things have been even better these past few days, so both are available for tomorrow. Corbin Friedkinâs presence is certainly a sign: the owners are starting to take action not only for the end of the season, which is the priority now, but also for the future.â
Regarding the future, the coach expressed himself thus: âRight now, there are two tracks. One is the season, which is still alive and well. Tomorrow we play a very important match against Fiorentina, a team coming off a positive streakâI think seven positive resultsâand who have pulled themselves out of a difficult position in the standings. They are a valuable team, who may have had some difficulties but remain competitive.â
âWe are absolutely focused on this match, because with four games to go, we are still in the league. We also need to look at the results of the other matches, but we all know the standings and our focus must remain on this final stage. The teamâs performance has been exceptional from the start, and we want to continue like this in the final four games, which will all be important, including the derby in between. Of course, we will talk about the future, but now is not the time. Not to avoid the topic, but because we are still fully in the season. When the time comes, I will try to be as clear as possible, also to the fans, who rightly want to understand what the plans will be.â

Gasperini then spoke about planning: âItâs clear that there has been a particular development in recent weeks, and we must give credit to the club, which likely suffered a major unexpected disappointment and was forced to take a different path than initially envisioned. However, I donât believe other teams have already done everything at this point. Even those who start a little later can still get back on track. Itâs clear that the owners will need the time and clarity to make the decisions, but they also have the ability and resources to do so in the best possible way.â
The coach then discussed his relationship with Sporting Director Massara and congratulated the Womenâs team on their Scudetto win: âRight now, Iâm returning to the match against Fiorentina. As I said, there are two tracks: one concerns the current season, and therefore a very important match like tomorrowâs. As for the rest, there will be time to discuss it in the right ways and at the right times. It will be primarily the club that will express its opinion on these aspects. One track is clear, and thatâs on the pitch; the other requires time because it concerns next season. Itâs not the time to go into details now, although it will be necessary to clarify what we want to build. The Womenâs Scudetto win was wonderful, fantastic. We must take a cue from them: the Scudetto may still be a long way off for us, but our goal must be to become a good and competitive team like theirs. Congratulations.â
On a possible meeting with the Friedkins: âIt should be like this, I hope so. Right now, however, the focus remains on the games and the championship, and rightly so. When the time comes to discuss the future, we will. It seems like weâre getting closer to that moment, but when it happens, everything will have to be as clear and transparent as possible.â
The Grugliasco-born coach then spoke about the players whose contracts were expiring: âThis has been a unique season, with so many players out of contract and several out on loan. It wasnât easy, under these conditions, to reach four matchdays from the end with such a strong turnout, while remaining competitive and still in contention. It was a risky situation. For this, I must give great credit to the players, who have shown extraordinary professionalism and dedication.â
âThe response seen in Bologna, for example, is significant. I can only thank these guys, whose performances have shown they are on the teamâs side, on Romaâs side, aiming to achieve the best possible result. This deserves recognition, because itâs not just technical or athletic qualities that matter: there are also very strong moral values, which are essential for a football team. This is the foundation on which to build. Then, if you can also add high-caliber players to further raise the quality, then youâve truly hit the mark.â
Finally, the coach spoke about the teamâs individual progress: âEveryone has room for improvement, not just the younger ones. Itâs clear that those who have played fewer championships may seem to have more room for improvement, but in reality, you can improve at any age, always gaining something extra. Yes, Iâm satisfied. Everyone has worked well so far; no one has been overlooked.â
âEveryone has had the opportunity to play multiple times and contribute, even those who have been given less playing time. The teamâs behavior, both in training and in matches, has always been impeccable: there have been no problems or incidents. Theyâve all been very professional, exemplary, and for that I can only thank them. The fact that weâre still here, playing for everything with just a few matchdays to go, is thanks to them.â
