The Georgia Bulldogs received some devastating injury news just days before their annual spring game. Auburn Tigers edge rusher transfer Amaris Williams suffered a torn ACL, making him likely to miss the rest of the season, according to Graham Coffey. Williams injured it in one of Georgia's final spring practices of the year on Tuesday.
Williams was ranked as the No. 6 defensive lineman transfer from this past offseason. The junior edge rusher was a five-star prospect from the class of 2024.
At Auburn, Williams showed bursts of being an elite pass rusher, but didn't put everything together. He had 20 combined tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks through his two seasons at Auburn.
He was expected to be the pièce de résistance for a Georgia Bulldogs pass rush that was inconsistent last season. Through the first eight games, the Bulldogs had just eight sacks, but from the Mississippi State matchup onward, they had 12 sacks. Georgia's 20 sacks finished last in the SEC.

Before his injury, Amaris Williams was ranked as the No. 6 defensive lineman transfer and had shown potential as an elite pass rusher at Auburn.
Williams was expected to significantly improve Georgia's pass rush, which struggled last season, and his absence may hinder their defensive performance.

The Bulldogs addressed their pass rush need with the addition of Williams via the portal. Williams' injury is a big blow to Georgia's pass rush and their is no spring transfer portal window, so Georgia won't have a way to replace Williams outside of using who they have on the roster.
At the very least, Williams would've been great depth, but now the Bulldogs will have to rely more on redshirt freshmen edge rushers Isaiah Gibson and Chase Linton. Georgia defensive end Gabe Harris is already out for spring practice.
