Georgia football trying to flip 4-star Texas commit

The Georgia Bulldogs have made move for four-star Texas Longhorns commitment Karnell "Greedy" James. The four-star defensive back recruit is a member of the class of 2027 and has been committed to Texas since Dec. 2025.

Georgia offered James a scholarship on April 15. The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back is one of Texas' eight commitments in the class of 2027. The Longhorns have the nation's No. 12 recruiting class. James is Texas' only defensive back commitment.

James plays high school football for Manvell High School in Manvell, Texas. The four-star is ranked as the No. 26 safety recruit in the country and the No. 43 prospect in Texas, per 247Sports. In the 247Sports Composite, James is the nation's No. 473 recruit. He was recently promoted to a four-star ranking.

On film, James immediately stands out as a dynamic punt returner. He's capable of taking any punt to the house. The Manvell star has a knack for being around the football and forcing turnovers. James is a ballhawk that primarily plays safety. He projects as a deep safety at the next level, but he's more than capable of tackling in open space. It is easy to see why so many top college football programs are interested in James.

The elite defensive back prospect has recently visited Notre Dame, so it appears that James is keeping his options open. Georgia will try to get him on campus to further sway the Texas commitment.

"Blessed to receive an offer from the University of Georgia," James said via social media. The Texas commitment has a 6-foot-6 wingspan and has a lot of recruiting momentum over the past few months. James has recent scholarship offers from Mississippi State, Kentucky, LSU, and Georgia.
