Georgia-FSU home-and-home becomes latest non-conference casualty

With the SEC expanding to nine conference games in football beginning this fall, some programs are reconsidering their future non-conference scheduling.

Quite a few future home-and-home series have become casualties, and now, a highly anticipated SEC vs. ACC series has become the latest. Georgia and Florida State have canceled their home-and-home, which was set for 2027 and 2028.

FSU announced the news in a release, stating that the two schools are working to add a neutral-site contest to their future schedules.

"As we considered the effects of evolving scheduling mandates within both the Atlantic Coast Conference and the Southeastern Conference, we have mutually agreed that it is in the best interest of both schools to cancel our home-and-home series scheduled for 2027 and 2028," FSU athletics director Michael Alford said. "We are now discussing playing a future neutral-site contest, and we are optimistic we will get that done. Importantly, this change will not reduce the total home games on our schedule moving forward."

Not every school has opted to eliminate such series. On Thursday, the same day the Seminoles announced the cancellation of the Georgia series, On3 reported that Alabama and Ohio State still plan to play their home-and-home series, which is also set for 2007 and 2008.

FSU and UGA haven't played since the Orange Bowl following the 2023 season, when the Bulldogs dominated a depleted Seminoles team 63-3.
