Giancarlo Stanton is recovering from a calf strain and has started taking swings in the batting cage. He plans to continue his rehabilitation with a pool workout and more swings this weekend.
The New York Yankees have been without slugger Giancarlo Stanton since April 24, when he last appeared in a game before suffering an injury.
The 36-year-old has been on the 10-day injured list because of a calf strain and is currently working his way back.
And there is a promising injury update to share on Stanton on Saturday.
According to the YES Networkâs Meredith Marakovits, Stanton said his calf is getting better and he was able to take swings in the batting cage on Friday.
Now, the plan is for Stanton to do a workout in the pool on Saturday and then to take more swings on Sunday.
âGiancarlo Stanton said his calf is improving,â Marakovits reported. âHit in cage yesterday and will hit again tomorrow. Doing workout in pool today. Seems encouraged by progress.â
Just days after Stanton suffered the injury, manager Aaron Boone wouldnât say if the veteran would come off the IL when first eligible.
âIt doesnât look too serious, but enough to not want to wait a couple of more days,â Boone said.
Stantonâs latest injury was definitely another âhere we go againâ moment for Yankees fans.
Since 2018 when he joined the Yankees, Stanton has been a regular on the injury list, and that has really been an issue for his entire career.
Stanton appeared in 158 games in 2018 and 139 games in 2021, but he has not played in more than 114 in any other season of his Yankees tenure.
His most injury-plagued campaigns came in 2019 and 2025, when he was in the lineup for 18 and 77 games, respectively. He was on the field for 24 of 60 games during the COVID-shortened 2020 season.

With Stanton hitting the IL, the Yankees decided to call up one of their most promising young players from Triple-A, Jasson Dominguez.
Dominguez was optioned down to the minors after an impressive spring.
That came after a 2025 season in which he played in 123 games and tallied 10 home runs, 47 RBIs and a .257 average.
Dominguez has gotten into three games since being called up, but he has struggled, going 1-for-9 (.111) with two strikeouts.
Weâll see if Dominguez stays in the majors upon Stantonâs return, which looks to be imminent.
