At first there seemed to be a concern when they signed Luis Arraez, but he's moved back to second base, so he wasn't blocking Eldridge.
Now, the Giants bring Eldridge up and have to decide what to do with Schmitt, who can play infield spots but is blocked at every position by Devers, Arraez, Willy Adames and Matt Chapman.
The Giants are hitting way too poorly to have waited any longer on giving Eldridge the call, so it makes sense that he's been promoted. But the whole sequence has been odd.
If he belongs now, he probably belonged on Opening Day, too. Now it'll be up to Eldridge to help save the day and pull the Giants out of a rut they may never have been in if he was in the majors a month ago.
