Gio Reyna goal in Bundesliga gives USMNT fans good news

Gio Reyna scored for the first time in 2026, finishing off a move with his first touch to give Borussia Mönchengladbach a consolation goal in a 3-1 defeat to Augsburg.

The 23-year-old attacker came on in the 58th minute of the contest and in addition to providing the 92nd minute goal also gave the team a jolt, completing all 26 of the passes he attempted and creating six chances in his 32 minutes of play.

It also was the most minutes he has played since being sidelined with muscle injuries earlier this season.

Will Gio Reyna make the USMNT World Cup roster?

Reyna approaching full fitness will be great news for U.S. manager Mauricio Pochettino as he works to assemble his final roster for this summer's World Cup.

The Argentine coach brought Reyna in for the Americans' March friendly matches, playing him 20 minutes against Belgium and 11 minutes against Portugal as he continued his recovery.

Pochettino also called Reyna in for November wins over Paraguay and Uruguay, with Reyna scoring in the 2-1 victory over the Albirroja and registering an assist in the 5-1 thumping of Uruguay.

His recovery and goal comes as Pochettino may be facing headaches elsewhere, with midfielders Johnny Cardoso and Tanner Tessmann suffering injuries this week that will keep them out of the rest of their club seasons - though Tessmann is expected back before the World Cup begins June 12 against Paraguay.
