As they continue in the AHL Calder Cup playoffs, the Grand Rapids Griffins are bolstering the depth of their lineup with another Detroit Red Wings prospect.
On Monday, the Griffins announced that they have signed forward Noah Dower-Nilsson to a professional tryout.
The decision by the Griffins to add Dower-Nilsson to the roster raises further concern that Nate Danielson won’t be healthy in time to help Grand Rapids during this playoff run. Danielson is out with a lower-body injury, which is suspected to be a hip ailment.
Dower-Nilsson can play on the wing or center, so his presence on the roster would supply the Griffins with some much-needed depth down the middle. He’s the seventh Red Wings draftee to join the Griffins since late in the 2025-2 AHL season.
Others added to the Grand Rapids roster include goalie Trey Augustine, defenseman Anton Johansson, and forwards Eddie Genborg, Jesse Kiiskinen, Dylan James, and Kienan Draper.
Already, Johansson (two games) and Genborg (one game) have appeared in the Calder Cup playoffs. Grand Rapids and the Manitoba Moose are in a 1-1 deadlock in their best-of-five Central Division semifinal.
Noah Dower-Nilsson is a forward prospect for the Detroit Red Wings who has signed a professional tryout with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The AHL Calder Cup playoffs are a postseason tournament in the American Hockey League where teams compete for the Calder Cup championship.
A professional tryout (PTO) allows a player to join a team for a limited time to showcase their skills, potentially leading to a contract.

The teams will be playing Game 3 (Wednesday), Game 4 (Friday), and Game 5 (Saturday), if necessary, in Grand Rapids. Each game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. puck drop at Van Andel Arena.
Dower-Nilsson signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Red Wings on April 4, which will begin in the 2026-27 season. The 21-year-old recently wrapped up his Swedish Hockey League season with Frolunda. He counted 16 points (6-10-16) and a plus-seven rating in 48 regular-season games. Dower-Nillson collected four points (2-2-4) in six SHL playoff outings. In addition, Dower-Nilsson won the 2025-26 Champions Hockey League title with Frolunda and totaled two assists in 12 appearances.
He also spent the 2024-25 campaign in the SHL with Frolunda, notching 10 points (4-6-10) in 35 regular-season outings. In the SHL from 2022-26, the 6-foot forward amassed 28 points (11-17-28), 20 PIM, and a plus-six rating in 91 games. He would add four points (2-2-4) in 13 postseason contests.
Dower-Nilsson was the 73rd overall pick by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. He played his entire youth career within Frolunda’s organization. His older brother, Liam Dower-Nilsson, was chosen by Detroit in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. He was never signed a contract with the Wings. He’s currently playing for Björkloven, which won promotion to the SHL this season.
