Harrisburg and Brandon Valley secured the top seeds for the Class A state high school baseball postseason in South Dakota. The postseason begins on May 15, with Harrisburg hosting Tea Area and Brandon Valley facing Sioux Falls Washington.
May 11—MITCHELL — The postseason is now set for the South Dakota High School Baseball Association's Class A bracket, which will begin on Friday, May 15.
Harrisburg finished as the No. 1 seed for the Class A postseason for the second season in a row, edging Brandon Valley and slotting the Lynx in at No. 2. Harrisburg (10-4 in Class A games) will host Tea Area in the best-of-three state-qualifying series, while the Lynx (15-3) drew 15th-seeded Sioux Falls Washington.
Sioux Falls Jefferson (16-5) is the No. 3 seed, Yankton (18-4) is seeded No. 4 and Rapid City Stevens (15-4) is the No. 5 seed.
No. 6 Pierre (16-8), No. 7 O'Gorman (14-9) and No. 8 Watertown (10-7) also have home series in the round of 16, with the Arrows facing No. 9 Sioux Falls Lincoln, O'Gorman drawing No. 10 Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Pierre facing No. 11 Mitchell.
All three of those series should be competitive, as Lincoln won its only meeting with Watertown 12-11, while O'Gorman and Roosevelt split two games this season and Mitchell swept Pierre in a home doubleheader earlier this season.
Brandon Valley is the reigning state champion in Class A after defeating Sioux Falls Jefferson 10-4 in 2025. The top-five seeds in this season's Class A playoffs all made the state tournament last year. Last season's Class A state tournament also included Harrisburg, O'Gorman, Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Watertown and Yankton.
The eight series winners advance to the single-elimination Class A state tournament, which will be held on Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23 at Augustana's Ronken Field in Sioux Falls. The four quarterfinals will be played on May 22, while the semifinals and championship game will be played on May 23.
