On UFC Vegas 116ās main card, fan-favorite brawler Davey Grant taks on promotional newcomer Adrian Luna Martinetti in a classic veteran vs. rookie showdown. This week, Iām locking in Grantās ML at -135.
Grant might be 40 years old, but heās still one of the toughest outs in the Bantamweight division ā and heās proven it time and time again against some of the nastiest unranked killers on the roster. Heās picked up wins over DaāMon Blackshear and Raphael Assuncao (watch highlights), and many still believe he was robbed in a razor-close decision against Daniel Marcos.
Even in his last outing ā a loss to Charles Jourdain ā Grant was performing well before getting caught with a wild flying knee and ultimately submitted (watch highlights). Thatās the risk when you fight the way Grant does: heās always in the fire. But that same willingness to engage is also what makes him so dangerous. Heās durable, aggressive, and completely unafraid to go to war.
On the other side, Martinetti (17-1) is making his UFC debut ā and while heās put together a solid record on the regional scene, the level of competition leaves a lot to be desired. Heās beaten a lot of lower-tier opponents, and while he was part of one of the best Contender Series fights of all time, that came against Mark Vologin, who is notably undersized.
Now heās stepping in against a seasoned veteran who has seen everything the sport has to offer. Add in potential UFC jitters, the bright lights, and the pressure of debuting against a fan-favorite brawler, and itās a tough ask. If Martinetti decides to trade with Grant ā and he likely will ā heās playing directly into Grantās game ā Grant by knockout at +250 is worth throwing five bucks on.
Grant is 40, and eventually, Father Time catches everyone. Martinetti is younger, fresher and could surprise if he fights a smart, disciplined game. Thereās also the possibility Grant gets caught again in one of his trademark firefights.
Still, given the experience gap, durability, and proven track record, Grant at -135 looks like one of the best value plays on UFC Vegas 116ās card.
