Mentioned in this story
This is the fifth edition of the Kroger Queen City Championship but itās the first time itās being hosted at Maketewah Country Club in Cincinnati. Charley Hull is the defending champion after an odd finish a year ago where Jeeno Thitikul, who was World No. 1 at the time, four-putted the last hole to hand Hull the title, her third on the LPGA.
Hull and Thitikul, last weekās winner in New Jersey, are back again this year, as is World No. 1 Nelly Korda, who has won her last two starts on tour, including a major championship. Sheās collected three wins so far this season. In total, 20 of the top 25 players in the world are competing this week, where the purse is $2 million and the winner takes home $300,000.
The story of the year so far on the LPGA is Korda because of the aforementioned numbers. But Thitikulās victory last week at the Mizuho Americas Open was her second this year, showing that Korda has company at the top of the world rankings. In fact, four players all ranking inside the top five in the world have combined to win nine of the 11 tournamentsāKorda (3), Thitikul (2), Hyo Joo Kim (2) and Hannah Green (2). Kim and Green, however, are not playing this week.
The schedule starts to get busy quickly for the LPGA after this week and two of the tourās next five events will be majors championshipsāthe U.S. Womenās Open, June 4-7 at Riviera and the KPMG Womenās PGA June 25-28 at Hazeltine National.
