With three home runs in their 7-3 Division III sectional championship victory over Sandusky on May 14, the Warriors pushed their team home run total to 38 surpassing the long-ball hitting 2023 squad that previously owned the program record for home runs in a season with 35.
Super sophomore Ellie Dawson’s first-inning two-run homer broke the tie and Brinlee Kreger and Lillian Gray added one home run apiece to continue pushing past the 2023 team.

“It is really cool,” Dawson said. “I never expected us to pass that team so it is a neat experience. I am hoping to find my pitches I know I can hit and do what I can with them.”
In 2023, Taylor Mullins crushed 13 home runs, which still stands as the single-season home run record, while Joslynn Frazier smashed 12 as the two combined for 25. Kylie Snow had three, Eden Howard and Alex Switaj had two apiece and Autumn Taylor, Trista Jewell and Olivia Kreger had one apiece. Ontario coach Jamie Burke sees those girls as great role models for her Warriors.
“It is fantastic,” Burke said. “When you think about the team that held that record and the girls who were on that team like Joselynn Frazier and Taylor Mullins and the entire team making it to regionals, they inspire us. We would love to repeat history and take after the example they set.”
Dawson now has 12 home runs on the season needing one more to tie Mullins and two to pass while Morgan Pearson had 10, Saylor Smith had six, Kylie Corwin had three and Sophie Schuster and Kreger have two apiece.
Dawson’s first-inning homer set the tone for the Warriors as they plated four runs in the home half of the inning. It was the perfect way to start off the first tournament game of the year.
“I was a little nervous at first,” Dawson said. “But I just settled down, played my game, found my pitch to hit and got the nerves out really early.”
The Warriors added one run in each of the second, third and fourth innings. Corwin led the way with three hits while Gray, Smith and Schuster had two apiece and Dawson, Kreger and Brylie Ireland had one apiece. Dawson, Gray and Kreger had two RBIs apiece and Smith tacked on one.
Ontario's Ellie Dawson gets ready to dig in for an at-bat during the Warriors' 7-3 Division III sectional championship win over Sandusky on Thursday, May 14, 2026.
“We got some great swings today and put together some quality at-bats,” Burke said. “We had some 20-pitch at-bats that sometimes didn’t end in our favor, but we look at that as a great at-bat. We will clean some things up defensively and get excited for an opportunity next week.”
Schuster picked up the win in the circle allowing three runs, one earned, on two hits with 11 strikeouts in a complete game. The Warriors (19-6) will take on Lexington at 6 p.m. on May 21 at Willard in the Division III district semifinals.
“I love playing against Lexington because it is such a fun and competitive rivalry,” Dawson said. “They are a very similar team to us and they have knocked us out the last two years in a row. I am so excited to play them next week.”
Lexington won last year’s postseason matchup 2-1 on their way to a regional championship. In 2024, Lex won 7-1. Burke hopes to buck that trend.
“It will be the third year in a row for us to see them in a district, so we have to come out and play our best game,” Burke said. “They are a fantastic team and have really turned it on in the back half of the season. We expect nothing but a really great game again.”
