South Sevier High has only been competing in girls golf for five years, and after Tuesday’s season-best round at the 2A state tournament, the Rams now have a state title feather in their cap.
South Sevier shot a 361 team score to narrowly edge region foe Grand by four strokes at Mountain View Golf Course in West Jordan to clinch that inaugural 2A championship.
“Today, I reminded them, ‘just let the club do the work and be kind to yourself.’ Because sometimes it’s hard when you’re out there and you’re in your head. Most important is just let the club do the work, remember your one, twos, and threes, as we talk about. Just to keep that mentality and keep it easy,” said South Sevier coach Dorianne Christensen.
She said all six of her golfers shot season-best rounds at the state tournament.
Cove View Golf Course in Richfield is South Sevier’s home course, and coach Christensen said a strong junior league program at the course has definitely helped grow the high school team in recent years.
Richfield’s girls golf team has a long history of success with seven state titles in the past 14 seasons, and nearby South Sevier just has its first title.
“We encourage younger kids to come out and play in the junior leagues. And then we also have etiquette courses that they get cheap golf, so we bring in that as well. We just try to bring them in as young as we can, so we have a really good junior league program that builds a foundation for us as coaches,” said Christensen.

Even though South Sevier only had one golfer in the top five — junior Saige Anderson tied for fifth — all six of its golfers finished in the top 25 and its four scoring golfers finished top 15.
Freshman Morgan Miller tied for 10th, senior Emmaline Gay tied for 12th and then senior Shaynna Fillmore and Hayden Bliss tied for 15th. The Rams’ other golfer, freshman Presley Memmott, tied for 25th.
Whenever one of them had a bad hole or a sequence of frustrating holes, Christensen was right there to pick them up mentally to get ready for the next hole.
“We had some girls who were emotional. But I just reminded them, we had this goal and what our goal is to just work together as a team. I just said, ‘Our team’s doing amazing, let’s just keep up the good work. Let’s move on to the next shot,’” said Christensen.
It paid of as South Sevier built a narrow lead on the back nine and made it hold up.
Without a cloud in the sky and temperatures in the 90s, it was definitely a challenging day for the golfers as they tried to keep their stamina up throughout 18 grueling holes. It was a vastly different setting than last year’s 2A state tournament at The Ridge Golf Course that was played in heavy rain and wind.
Beaver won that tournament by beating South Sevier by 23 strokes for the 3-peat, but with three contributors back from that team the Rams flipped the narrative in 2026 to win the state title with a team score of 361. Grand finished third with a 365 followed by Beaver in third with a 378.
Grand freshman Sofia Munger had the low scoring average in 2A during the regular season and backed it up with 2A medalist honors by three strokes after shooting an 82.
“I was definitely nervous for sure. The nerves were definitely there, but once I got past the first hole (a par), I knew what I was doing,” said Munger about her first-ever state tournament.
Three senior golfers tied for second with 85s, which included last year’s 2A medalist Brittni Crum as she was joined by teammate Sunnie Moon and American Heritage’s Anna Eggertsen.
South Sevier’s Anderson and Rowland Hall’s Akemi Kawabata tied for fifth.
Despite parring No. 1, Munger said the front nine was a bit of a grind as she sprayed the ball off the tee a bit, leading to double bogeys on No. 5, 6 and 7, as she found herself 6-over through just seven holes.
“I was kind of all over the place on the front, but on the back it was good. I just had the thought that I’m just going to grind this out and every shot matters,” said Munger.
The mentality switch paid off as she shot 4-over over those final 11 holes to win medalist honors.
