When Chris Ballard joined The Rich Eisen Show on Thursday, he spoke about Indianapolis Colts' quarterback Daniel Jones and what has surprised him during his current tenure in Indianapolis. The Colts general manager compared Jones to former quarterback Alex Smith, during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs.
"We had Alex Smith in Kansas City; they're a lot alike, how they prepare for the game, how steady they are day-to-day, there was a lot of similarities," Ballard said.
He also admitted that he may have not given Jones the credit he deserved when he arrived in Indy.
"I probably underestimated his accuracy coming in the door. This dude is accurate now, and when he's in rhythm and really in a groove, he is excellent," Ballard said about the Colts' signal caller. "We had scouted Daniel, but until you live with somebody, you don't know them. So, you know, living with him everyday, seeing his consistency, seeing him not get too high or too low; all of those things bode well for the Colts and his future."
Jones completed 64.1% of his passes during his six seasons with the Giants but he connected on a career-high 68.0% last year.
Jones signed a two-year, $88-million-dollar extension with the Colts in March. He is coming off a season-ending torn Achilles tendon that he suffered in Week 14 last season against Jacksonville. The Colts and Jones are both expecting the 28-year-old to be available for Indianapolis' regular season opener.
