Maureen Magarity has been hired as the head coach of Vermont's women's basketball team with a four-year contract worth $315,000 annually. She succeeds Alisa Kresge, who left for Richmond, and her contract includes performance-based bonuses.
Maureen Magarity and the University of Vermont have agreed to a four-year deal worth $315,000 in base pay annually for her to be the next head coach of the school's women's basketball program, the UVM athletic department told the Burlington Free Press.
Two days after Alisa Kresge left Vermont to take the opening at Richmond, Magarity was tapped as Kresge's successor. Magarity was officially announced as the program's next leader on Monday, April 13. An introductory news conference is scheduled for this afternoon, April 14.
Magarity's contract, which will include "bonuses for competitive success," is still being finalized, according to a UVM athletic spokesperson.Ā Kresge, in her last year as Vermont's coach, had a base salary of $250,000, plus a bonus structure.
Magarity, the former head coach of New Hampshire and Holy Cross, is married to Vermont men's basketball coach John Becker. It is believed to be the first time in Division I history that a married couple is leading D-I basketball programs at the same school.
In four seasons at Holy Cross, Magarity took the Crusaders to consecutive NCAA tournaments, winning a First Four game in 2024. In a decade run at UNH, Magarity was named the Kay Yow National Coach of the Year in 2017 and finished with the second-most wins (146) in program history.
The Catamounts are coming off back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament, and three March Madness appearances in four seasons.
