Neville: Arsenal will need wheelbarrow to get over line in PL title race
Neville says Arsenal will need a wheelbarrow to win the PL title after edging past Newcastle.
When the Howie Roseman biography is written, the draft playbook needs its own chapter. The Philadelphia Eagles entered the 2026 NFL Draft armed with four compensatory picks. Instead of treating those selections as consolation prizes, Roseman turned them into currency.
His Eagles watched key contributors from their 2024-25 Super Bowl run walk in free agency. They were rewarded with compensatory selections at No. 98, No. 137, No. 178, and No. 215 overall. By the end of the weekend, two of those assets had already been transformed into players expected to shape the franchiseās future.
Pick No. 137 became part of a calculated move up the board. Packaged with Nos. 23 and 114, it helped the Eagles climb to No. 20, where they landed wide receiver Makai Lemon. The deal didnāt just secure a playmaker. It also returned a 2027 seventh-round pick, squeezing extra value out of the transaction.
That wasnāt Philadelphia's only move.
Roseman also leveraged pick No. 98, one acquired after Milton Williamsā departure, to help construct a trade package for pass rusher Jonathan Greenard. Philadelphia sent that selection along with a 2027 third-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings, while again recouping a 2027 seventh-rounder.
Greenard didnāt just arrive as a rental either. He was immediately signed to a four-year, $100 million extension.
Thereās another layer to the story. Greenardās average annual salary falls short of the $30 million per year the Carolina Panthers handed Jaelan Phillips, reinforcing the value play behind the move.
This is where Roseman separates himself. Compensatory picks aren't just placeholders. In Philadelphia, they're leveraging for more moves. Once again, he turned roster losses into something far more valuable: control of the board and the future. Maybe it's time we have a new conversation. We may be looking at the prime years of a Hall-of-Fame executive.
