The Carolina Hurricanes and Ottawa Senators are set to face off in the playoffs, with the Hurricanes leading in points (113 to 99). Both teams play a similar style, focusing on puck possession and pressure.
Goals Points
Svechnikov 31 70
Aho 27 80
Jarvis 32 66
Goals Points
Batherson 33 71
Stutzle 34 83
Giroux 14 49
These first lines seem pretty even point-wise. The Canes might have a slight advantage because of Jarvis, but Giroux has the advantage in experience. Push

Hall 18 48
Stankoven 21 44
Blake 22 53
Tkachuk 22 59
Cozens 28 59
Greig 13 35
Here is where the Sens have the advantage, but the Canes will do their best to match up the Staal line here. Advantage Senators

Martinook 12 17
Staal 20 36
Ehlers 26 71
Cousins 9 23
Pinto 23 46
Amadio 15 35
Hurricanes have the advantage here because of Ehlers, although as mentioned earlier the Staal line will probably be matched up against Ottawaβs second line. Still, βs second line should hold up well here.

Again, looks like another push.

Chatfield 2 17
Slavin 1 8
Sanderson 14 54
Zub 5 30
Slavin is the best defenseman of the bunch but Chatfield is over-slotted here, (in my opinion). I give the Sens the nod here.

Miller 8 37
Walker 9 31
Chabot 7 31

I give Carolina the edge here.

Huge advantage to Carolina here.

Andersen 3.05 0.874
Bussi 2.47 0.895
Ullmark 2.73 0.891
Reimer 2.42 0.886
Andersen has the worst numbers of the bunch but has played better since the Olympic break. Bussi was named as Carolinaβs most valuable player this season as he basically saved the season when Andersen had big time issues and went down to injury. After some struggling after the break, he has come on strong in recent games.
BrindβAmour is playing coy naming a starter but my guess would be Andersen because of his playoff experience.
also had a slow start and took a leave of absence for personal reasons in December. He has played very well since his return posting a 14-3-4 record in his last 21 games with a GAA of 2.54 and save percentage of .900.
We all know that goaltending is voodoo so it is hard to pick a favorite of this bunch. But Ullmark has a lofty $8.25 million annual salary to live up to, perhaps the pressure is on him.
Will the Sens prevail because they chose to spend money on goaltending, or will the Canes philosophy of going cheap in goal pay off?
Overall, the Hurricanes have scored 296 goals, good for first in the East and second in the league, (behind only ). They have allowed 240 for a differential of 56, among the tops in the league.
Ottawa has scored 278 and allowed 246 for a difference of 32.
We could compare various stats all day long but bottom line, it will depend upon who is hot and who is not. Who wins the most individual battles, who performs in the clutch, and who wants it, just a bit more than the next guy.
It should be a great series. Buckle up Caniacs!
The Carolina Hurricanes have 113 points, while the Ottawa Senators have 99 points in the current playoff standings.
Key players include Logan Stankoven and Andrei Svechnikov for the Hurricanes, and Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle for the Senators.
The Hurricanes' Andersen has a GAA of 3.05, while the Senators' Ullmark has a GAA of 2.73, indicating a slight edge for Ullmark.
The Hurricanes have a goal differential of +56, scoring 296 goals and allowing 240, while the Senators have a differential of +32, scoring 278 and allowing 246.
