Fred Warner, the All-Pro linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers, is fully cleared for all offseason activities after recovering from an ankle injury that ended his 2025 season early. His return is a significant boost for the team's defense.
San Francisco 49ers All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner won't be facing any restrictions for the team's offseason program as he returns from an ankle injury that cut his 2025 season short.
Warner on Monday spoke with reporters on Day 1 of the 49ers' offseason program. Per ESPN's Nick Wagoner, Warner said he's a full go for the entire offseason program.
That's great news for the 49ers who sorely missed Warner in the middle of their defense last season. He sustained a broken and dislocated ankle during the club's Week 6 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Signs of his impending return were good starting in the postseason when there was buzz he'd be able to return if the 49ers made a deep enough playoff run.
A video of Warner practicing ahead of the divisional playoffs gave rise to the idea he might suit up earlier than expected and play against the Seattle Seahawks. He didn't return for that game, but the speculation was that he'd be able to play in the NFC championship game had the 49ers knocked off the eventual Super Bowl champs.
With a full offseason under his belt there's no real surprise that Warner will be back for a full offseason program. Getting back to action in April gives him a real chance to hit the ground running at something close to 100 percent when the regular season begins in September.
