The New England Patriots filled many needs through the NFL Draft, but some of their picks may not make an immediate impact.
The Patriots spent their first-round pick on offensive tackle Caleb Lomu. The Patriots are set at both tackle spots, but Lomu is expected to take over for Morgan Moses next season. Similarly, the Patriots drafted tight end Eli Raridon in the third round. The Patriots already have Hunter Henry, but he is in a contract year.
Raridon can still make an impact this year, but the Patriots drafted him knowing he could potentially take over Henry's role next season. Patriots insider Taylor Kyles thinks Raridon has the potential to be an All-Pro once he takes over as the starter.
“I think in year three or four I could see him being a legitimate Pro Bowl quality player," Kyles said on CLNS on Tuesday. "If you're a downfield threat playing with Drake Maye, you're going to get the numbers... I think at some point in his career, he’s gonna be knocking on an All-Pro. What about his game would make you think he’s not?”
Insiders believe Eli Raridon has the potential to become an All-Pro due to his skill set and the Patriots' need for a strong tight end.

Raridon had 32 receptions for 482 yards last season at Notre Dame. He is expected to make a bigger impact in the NFL when given more opportunities in the passing game. He had the tenth-best athleticism score among tight ends at the combine and will have the luxury of learning from a veteran like Henry.
The Patriots do not need Raridon to be a superstar out of the gate. However, he has the tools and potential to be a great player for them for years to come.
