Jeff Brown has been named the new front-page writer for Bleed Cubbie Blue, succeeding Duane Pesice, who stepped down for health reasons. Brown will cover Cub Tracks and baseball history articles, bringing over 60 years of experience as a Cubs fan and a background in sports writing.
About a month ago, I posted here that Duane Pesice, who has been a front-page writer for Bleed Cubbie Blue for more than 11 years (since Oct. 29, 2015), was stepping away for health reasons, and I asked you to write in if you were interested in the position. (Thanks to all those who wrote in!)
Today, I am introducing Jeff Brown, who you might already know from his BCB posting handle “Ryno1984,” as our new front-page writer, succeeding Duane. He’ll take care of Cub Tracks four times a week and our baseball history articles on the other three days.
Here’s a bit more about Jeff: He lived in the Tulsa area for over 60 years, then recently traded the ice storms and tornadoes for the 115-degree temperatures of northwest Phoenix. He became a Cub fan the summer of 1979 when he first got cable TV. His first favorite player was Bill Buckner and he became a Ryno fan just in time to make his college summer semester in ‘84 MUCH more enjoyable! His working career involved insurance, sportswriter of all sports for two large high school programs, and a library for over 10 years. He loves music of all genres and have recently been increasing his vinyl collection of early Jazz and both vintage and modern Blues. He and his wife of 32 years love traveling — minor-league ballparks, National Parks and music-related cruises top the list. Plus they enjoy their rescue dogs of various breeds and personalities over the years.
I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Duane for all the great work he’s done for this site for many years. Thanks, Duane, I appreciate everything you’ve done for BCB and wish you well going forward.
Duane’s last article for BCB will be tomorrow’s Cub Tracks. Jeff’s first will be Cubs/baseball history unpacked for Wednesday, April 15.
Please welcome Jeff to the BCB staff, and let’s all thank Duane for everything.
